Hilarious reviews of the world’s famous landmarks

“It’s a pretty awful 1960s style concrete building,” wrote one Tripadvisor user.

USERS have taken to Tripadvisor to brand the Sydney Opera House “a pretty awful 1960s style concrete building” and the Great Wall of China “too long”.

Here are the most frank accounts of 10 of the world’s most popular tourist attractions.

SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE

One visitor to Australia advises that the further away you stand from the Sydney Opera House, the “less awful it looks”.

“It’s a pretty awful 1960s style concrete building. It’s really nothing special at all. Save yourself the effort and view it from the bridge or harbour,” wrote Tripadvisor user ‘wanderer2012’.

EIFFEL TOWER, PARIS

This Tripadvisor user thought Blackpool tower was just as impressive.

“Too big, too ugly and too many people. Prefer Blackpool Tower or Roc d’Enfer. Nice river though. Mmmmmm,” wrote ‘Martin R’.

GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE, SAN FRANCISCO

A negative review was posted after confusion about the colour of the ‘Golden’ Gate Bridge.

“It’s red and windy and cold and I think they should rename it the big rusty cold bridge in the city that has many homeless people that all asked me for quarters,” wrote ‘SchweizerAussie’.

THE GRAND CANYON, ARIZONA

Going to a National Park probably isn’t the best idea if you think “nature is crap”.

“I’ve been to a number of so called landmarks in my time — but what the hell was this? Just an overblown sandy ditch. Really don’t get the fascination. Took two hours to get there — should’ve stayed in my hotel and watched a DVD instead,” wrote ‘David H’.

CHRIST THE REDEEMER, RIO DE JANEIRO

Nothing to see here, according to one reviewer.

This tourist was less impressed with the Christ the Redeemer statue, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.

“The world’s most highly over rated ... hahahaha ... wonder of the world. Just a concrete pillar. I spent a total of five minutes here,” wrote ‘Sivasuriam’.

STONEHENGE, WILTSHIRE

Some Tripadvisor reviewers found the prehistoric British monument a little underwhelming.

“A bunch of old rocks sitting in the middle of a deserted area of England ... Here’s my advice — get a video of Stonehenge from your library. Watch it for free on your TV as you sip an Old Speckled Hen beer or an Earl Grey tea if you prefer. Return it to your library. You have just saved loads of dollars and seen it without the hassle or the cold wind blowing in your face,” one user wrote.

GREAT WALL OF CHINA

Maybe this tourist should have tackled a bit of a smaller wall.

“I didn’t feel good with my leg that day and my wife really wanted to visit all the Chinese Wall and I said ‘OK, let’s do it’, but I soon understood that it was definitely too long for me and I got tired. I failed in front of my wife because of this wall, so I’m not going back there,” wrote ‘woodywoodpecker51’.

HOLLYWOOD SIGN, CALIFORNIA

“Who cares” about the world’s most iconic sign, says one reviewer.

“It’s old and decrepit and hard to get to. But if you find it is a must for you to do, know the road is very winding to get to the sign. Take your picture from a distance because it is not impressive when you get to the top,” wrote ‘Lisa S’.

THE LITTLE MERMAID, COPENHAGEN

We don’t think Hans Christian Andersen would have been very impressed with this tourist’s comment.

“It’s like the Kardashians. Famous because ... It’s famous. Waste of time. See it on a hop-on-off tour if it passes, but don’t go out of your way,” wrote ‘Odysseusaz’.
