Chris Gayle acccused of sexism after asking female cricket presenter out on a date

Chris Gayle has come under fire after appearing to ask a female cricket presenter out on a date live on air.

The West Indies batsman had just finished his innings for the Melbourne Renegades in their Big Bash League game with Hobart Hurricanes.

Having starred with a blistering 41 off of just 15 balls in the Renegades' successful run-chase, Ten Sport's Melanie McLaughlin grabbed a few words with the main man.

Responding to McLaughlin's questions on Gayle's approach to the innings the batsman said: "I just wanted to have an interview with you as well, that's why I batted so well."

With McLaughlin visibly unsettled by Gayle's comments, the big Jamaican added: "Your eyes are beautiful, hopefully we can win this game and then we can have a drink after as well. Don't blush baby."

A bemused McLaughlin managed to laugh off the invitation adding: "I'm not blushing."

Former England captain, Andrew Flintoff was quick to condemn Chris Gayle for his bizarre approach to the post-match interview.

Gayle's latest comments will come as no surprise to many cricket fans with Gayle renowned for his lifestyle of 'exorbitant hedonism.'

The 36-year-old drew public criticism last year after posting a picture of a strip club he had installed in his Kingston mansion.

Gayle defended his lavish lifestyle after transforming a single-storey building into a mansion with four garages, nine bedrooms and a personal cinema.

“I grew up with nothing, and I made a bit of money,” he said.

“Now I can say, ‘I want that car, I want that house’. I’ve got my dream home, so I’m satisfied. This is where I started. The fact that I’m able to help my friends is fantastic. A lot of people would love to be in this position.”
