JARRYD Roughead’s comeback from a knee injury has taken a significant step forward — literally.
Hawthorn’s sorely-missed dual All-Australian and Coleman medallist, who underwent a PCL reconstruction in January, this week resumed running.
In a cautious session, Roughead was watched by three coaches and members of the Hawks’ fitness staff at Waverley as he ran on the AlterG anti-gravity machine.
“We’re starting the long road back now I guess,” Roughead told Gold 104.3 this morning.
“I ran at 75 per cent body weight, which is effectively 75kg. I haven’t been able to run at 75kg since I was 14-years-old.”
Roughead said he remained on track for a mid-season return.
“Everything is going well so far,” he said.
“It was eight weeks ago on Tuesday and even though we’ve missed the first couple (of matches) it’s still looking like a midyear return, which is good.”
